The first 32 pages relate to the American part of the journey and is full of interesting anecdotes and observations on the railroads, local celebrities and acquaintances ; references to the Indians ; detailed account of the route : Cape Horn, Giants Gap, Ogden, Promon- tory, Weber Canon, Echo Canon, Fort Steele, Carbon, Sherman, Cheyenne, Omaha, Missouri River, Chicago, Canada (along the Shore of Lake Erie), Horse-Shoe Fall, Niagara, Rochester, Hudson River and New York.
