It was translated into English by Blundeville, and published in 1560 and subsequent years. An Eighteenth Century Stud Book, partly filled in, with entries dating from 1768 to 1775. The owner bought horses from Sir C. Bunbury, Lord Grosvenor, Mr. Whitelock, Lord Rocking- ham, Mr. Bouverie, Lord Barrymore, Lord Bolingbroke, Lord Ossory and _ others. There are also records of Matches and En- gagements, in particular of Newmarket and Burford £3 10s Folio. Old calf, with clasps. Contemporary calf. 12, 311 pp. An interesting book on-social history by one of the pioneers of Italian culture in England in the 18th century. There is a list of subscribers, comprising’ Many distinguished Englishmen of the _ period, including Horace and Thomas Walpole. (Fazio degli) Il Dittamondo. Venice, Christoforo di Pensa, 1501 £10 10s 8vo. Stamped calf with clasps, in old style. 268 leaves, the last blank, Roman characters. A very interesting work written in imitation of Dante’s Divina Commedia. The atthor is led through the world by the ancient geographer Solinus (instead of Virgil), and the book contains very interesting descriptions of the world as it was known at the time, including England and Frafice. It contains much interesting information about the views of the time and details on plants, animals, precious stones, etc. This is the second edition, the first having been published in 1474. A few pages slightly discoloured but fine copy. Gamba 1020; Brunet II., 1199.
