How eminently this was the cafe with regard to Jofephy fee Gen. xlix. 22—26; to Samuely fee 1 Sam. iii. 19, It was exprefsly commanded, that a baf·- tardy or fon of a woman who was with child by whoredonty ihould not enter in- to the congregatio71 of the Lord, even to his te?2th generation, Deut. xxiii. 2. See this whole hiftory, 1 Sam. i. and ii. Who then can doubt of SamueV^ legitimacy, confequently of God’s allow- iince of, and bleffmg on polygamy ? If fuch fecond marriage was in God’s ac- count null and voidy as a fin againft; the original law of marriage, the feventh com-ts mandment, or a72y other law of God, no mark of legitimacy could have been found on the iffae ; for a null and void marriage is tantamount to no marriage at all; and if no marriage, no legitimacy of the iflue can poflibly be.
