    float about in the plasma. These corpuscles are of two kinds, the red and the colowrless. A Red Corpuscle is a minute dise-like body with no nucleus, 80 small that 3,200 of them laid side by side would measure only oneinch. Its edges are rounded, and it is hollowed in the centre on each side, so that, viewed in profile, it looks somewhat dumb- bell-shaped. When bloodis shed and examined under the micro- scope, the red corpuscles tend to run together into rouleaux, like heaps of coins. They are rounded cells with a nucleus, closely resembling the ameba; they can move. about and change their shape. Similar cells are found all over the body, not only in the blood, but in certain organs, and loose in the tissues. The general name of Leucocyte has been given to all these cells. Uses of the Blood.—The plasma carries albumin and other nutritive matter to the muscles and other organs, and lime and phosphates to the benes, and takes away from the tissues eertain waste matters to be disposed of elsewhere. Plasma also contains a substance which, under certain con- ditiops, produces clotting or coagulation of the blood; when
