In example number five the amount is simply the number of pills, of a size and composition already determined by the Pharmacopoeia, which the patient is likely to require for the present need. Assuming by the outlook of the case that the medication will probably have to be kept up for a week or two, and observing that six pills, are used a day, the number five dozen, an allow- ance for ten days, suggests itself as a convenient, round number to order.
