![convinced of tVieir importance. An implicit faith in the opinion of teachers, and attachment to systems and estab- lished forms, am] the dread of reflections, will always ope- rate upon those who follow Medicine as a trade. Few improvements are to be expected from a man who might ruin his character and family by even the smallest devia- tion from an established rule. No argument, continues he, can be brought against laying open Medicine, which does not apply with equal, if not greater force, to religion ; yet experience has shown, that since the laity have averted their rights of inquiry into these subjects, Theology, considered as a science, has been improved, and the interests of real religion have been promoted. In the arrangement of this work, I have divided it into parts, as fallows : Part First—Contains a synopsis of the human struc- ture. Part Second—Medical I'oiany, Part Third—Art of Healing. Part Fourth—Recipes. CERTIFICATES. The following certificate is from the Rev. Lucius W. Clark, and Rev. Thomas Con ant, both of Plymouth, Massachusetts : To all whom it may concern:—Wo the undersigned,do tes- tify, that Dr. Sanborn has been practicing on the Botanical System of medical treatment in Plymouth, and as far as our knowledge extends, lias been successful.
