    I V , C 47 ] A fufficient quantity of this is to be mixed with fome white of an egg, and applied. But care lhould be taken to cleanfe the part from any coagu¬ lated blood; and the doffil, directed to the upper part of the noflril, towards its opening into the throat; as it is from that part that the hemorrhage N almoft always proceeds. I apprehend that the fuperior excellence of this application, befides what is derived from the efficacy of the powder, may in part be owing to its confif- tence; by this means not being liable to be waflied off by the oozing blood, (which is the cafe of liquid ftyptics) and to its fmoothnefs, by means of which it paffes eafily and dire&ly to the ruptured yeffel, which powders, upon lint, cannot do.
