![duuiietcr; middir porCu,,, of the esophagus, 12 to 15 //long by scarcely SM'in diameter; esophageal bulb, 16 to 18// long by 18 /x in diameter; dorsoventral diameter al)out middle of the worm, 24/<; at cloaca' '20 m; length of Hliform portion of the tail, about 80 M- The spicules are two in number, 3S/< long, similar in strw^ture and form, with decided dorsal convexity and ventral concavity; the base is rather prominent, and measures about 10 m dorsoventrally. An accessory chitinous piece is present, somewhat caudad of the spicules. Three distinct caudal papillre are clearly visible. One of these is postanal and two are preanal. No copulatory bursa is pi-esent. A single testicle is present, extending anteriorly beyond the middle of the body. Some slight variation was noticed in different specimens. Thus, in a specimen 1.30 mm. long, the esophagus measured 192 /t; the spicules were 36/< long, with a base of 8//; the anus was 160 ja from the tip of the tail. In another specimen, l.Mmm. long, the esophagus meas- ured 196 m long; spicules, 36 m long, with a base of 8 //; anus, 164: m from tip of tail. Some variation was also noticed in the position and number of the caudal papillaj; while most specimens exhibited only three as described above, several males were found with four, and in one or two instances with five. It does not seem impossible to us that the normal number is greater than three, but that one or more are overlooked even upon a very careful examination. Females.-—^Females were found measuring from 1 to 2.1: mm. in length. In a female measuring 1.74 mm. in length, the diameter of the body was 40 /£, the buccal cavity 8 m long, the esophagus 200 m long, the anus 244 m fi'om the tip of the tail. In a specimen 1.6 mm. long the esophagus was 200 m long, vulva 712 m fi'om the mouth, anus 240 M from tip of tail. In a specimen 1 mm. long, in which noembr3'os were developed, the esophagus measured 180 m long, the anterior portion measuring 112 /<, the middle portion 48 /<, the esophageal bulb 20 M in length. The dorsoventral diameter of the bodj^ in the middle was 20 //, at the anus 18 M- The rectum was very distinct, 32 m long; the anus 160 m fI'om the tip of the tail. The largest specimen found was 2.4 mm. long by 72 m in diameter. It contained embrj-os meas- uring 222 M long by 12 /£ in diameter. The vagina was a narrow tube 21 M long, running at right angles to the exterior, and about l.h M broad. Fig. 10 shows a gravid female. It will be noticed that the vulva is slightly caudad of the equator of the body, and that the vagina ])ranches into a l)icorned uterus. The anterior horn of the uterus extends forward nearl,y to* the esophagus, then curves and runs cau- dad a short distance. The posterior horn of the uterus extends caudad nearly to the anus, then curves and runs ccphalad toward the vulva. As a rule, comparativcl^y few eggs are found at an}' one](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21352331_0052.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
