    £ 7 ] forbent, or returning vefiels, fhould by any means be rendered incapable of performing their ufual and natural fun dr ions; the flownefs, or quick- nefs, in the progrefs of thefe maladies, probably depend much upon the greater, or lefs, degree of infirmity of thefe particular parts; as well as upon the generally relaxed habit of body that preceeded the difeafe, or that accompanies it. In fome, thefe difeafes admit only of a pallia¬ tive, or temporary relief; whilft in others, they are found to admit of a radical, or effedtual cure. This fpecies of difeafe, when it attacks the ca¬ vity of the Abdomen, is well enough known by the term Afcites; when it attacks one, or both cavities of the Thorax, it is termed Hydrops Fedtoris, or Hydrops Thoracis; when it attacks the cavity of the Tunica Vaginalis, it is termed Hydro¬ cele, or Hernia Aquofa; when it attacks the ca¬ vity and contents of the Cranium, it is termed Hydrocephalus; and when it attacks the Mem- brana Cellularis (which loofe membrane is by anatomifts fufficiently known to exifl: in almoft every part of the body), it is then, from its fitua- tion and extent, termed Anafarca; or from the pallid colour which this difeafe gives to the body, limbs, and face, it is termed Leucophlegmatia.
