![=] At this stage the question came before the Army Hospitals Committee, which had recently been formed, having been referred to it by the Advisory Board. That Committee declined to accept hutting, and worked out a proposal to suit the conditions put before them. Such alterations as the following largely increased the cost :— Walls of brick; roofs of slate. Better floors. Heating by hot water throughout, fireplaces being retained only for - ventilation. . Cubic space to be 2,COO cubic feet per bed (the L.G.B. minimum), instead of 1,500 cubic feet per bed. Mortuary and administration block largely modified and increased, as also disinfecting arrangements. Nurses and orderlies’ quarters improved and enlarged. The total estimate, as now worked out in Home District, comes to 12,000/., of which 1,000/. hag been spent on fencing, &c. B. Report of Construction Susp-CoMMITTEE ON PROPOSED RE-APPROPRIATIONS at Rocuester Row. The Sub-Committee visited Rochester Row Hospital on the 28th September 1903. They consider— (1.) That the barrack room “A block’’ may be re-appropriated as an itch ward. , (2.) That a Warrant Officer should live on the premises, and that the proposed re-appropriation of his present quarters should not be approved. (3.) The proposed quarters for Warrant Officer and for Orderly M.O. in B Block are quite unfit. There are no sanitary arrangements. Though these might possibly be provided so as to accommodate the O.M.O., the cost would not be worth while for the short time these quarters will be required—approximately i8 months. The O.M.O. should be on the lodging list. | (4.) The other re-appropriations may be approved.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b32181917_0108.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
