This Word does not fo frequently lignify a Counfel, or Secret, as it does a Council, or Alfembly where Per- fons meet to confult together. It is rendered by the latter of thefe in our Verlion in many Places,s and Ihould have been fo here. Be not thou united with them, אל־תחד] Mold of the antient Verfions render the Verbs in this,, and the preceding, Line, by the op- tative Mood ; but I have followed ours here in uling the imperative with the vocative Cafe, to avoid the Solecifm which infues on joining כבודי* a Noun of the mafculine Gender, with תהד which (if confidered in the 3 perfon fut.) is of the feminine. The Samaritan Text reads indeed יחר kindled; but the Senfe of the Verb יחד is more agreeable to the Context. It is not improbable however that neither תחד nor יחד are perfectly right, but that the true Reading is to be extracted from both, and that it was יחד, the 3 perf. mafc. fut. either of the Verb יחד To be united, or of חלה To rejoice; becaufe if the Force of the imperative was intended to have been expreffed, that Mood would have been ufed : And becaufe all the antient Verlions agree, as was before intimated, a- gainft the vocative Cafe. I have fupplied in the Verfion the Prepofi- tion with the Pronoun (אתם) with them, as in a parallel Inftance, viz, לא־תחד אתם בקבורה, Thou Jhalt not be joined with them in Burial!* for otherwife it fhould be a ל, and not a ב, which fhould be prefixed to קהלם. r Chap.
