The frontispiece of the Second Voyage, being uncut, shows the imprint at the foot which is generally cut away, and all the other plates from these two volumes are separately bound in an oblong folio atlas, without folds. The atlas to the Third Voyage is bound in half calf with the edges trimmed, but contains the rare engraving by Bartolozzi of the Death of Cook. There is a fine portrait of Cook at the beginning of Kippis’ Life. 90 COOK (Captain James). [LEDYARD (John)]. MDCCLXXXYV. 8vo., with a folding plate of the Death of Cook, a large folding chart, and 9 other plates; a good copy in old. calf, worn. 1785 £5 $20.00 This surreptitious and anonymous account of Cook’s last voyage was probably written by John Ledyard, a sergeant of marines on the Resolution. The first edition appeared in 1781, preceding the official narrative by three years. 91 COOK (Captain James). WEBBER (James). Views in the South Seas, from drawings made by the late James Webber, draftsman on board the Resolution, Captain James Cooke, from the year 1776 to 1780. With letterpress, descriptive of the various scenery, etc. These plates form a new series, and are of the same size as those engraved for Captain Cooke’s last voyage.
