About this work

Publication/Creation

Paris : H. Gormontius, 1545.

Physical description

20 unnumbered leaves : woodcuts ; (folio)

Notes

Ten folding broadsheets signed A-E, a-e, containing 19 woodcuts with letterpress title and captions
Most of the illustrations derive from Vesalius's 'Tabulae anatomicae sex' or Dryander's 'Anatomiae ... pars prior' and have been attributed to Hans Baldung Grien. The illustrations for this ed. were printed from blocks originally cut by Cornelis Bos for the French and Latin versions published by him in Antwerp in 1542 and the two superficial anatomy figures, which differ from those in Ryff's original edition published in Strasbourg in 1541, are evidently by him.
Copy 1 Note: In this copy, the sheets have been divided into single folio leaves and cropped at head and foot with some loss of text.
