This catalogue is distinguished from the catalogue of the Astronomical Society .(q. v. infra) in two important particulars, In the first place, the secular variation of precession, both in the right ascension and declination is given for each star. Secondly the proper motions of the stars are assigned with as great a degree of nearness to truth, as the existing state of sidereal astronomy allowed. ‘his catalogue has proved of vast service to astronomers in every part of the civilised world.’—Prof. k.
