    We employ the pound of the goldfmiths, which we divide in this manner : The pound twelve ounces. The otince . eight drams. The dram (49D 28) three Ícruples. The {cruple twenty grains. The meafure likewife of liquids in this country differs: one being ufed for beer, and another for wine. We adopt the lat- ter; ufing that meafure for a pint which is called a «vize-pint. This pint we divide thus : The pint ) : fixteen ounces. . : contains; . The ounce f ( eight drams. The gallon contains eight pints. ‘the Avoirdupois only 4372! grains: that is, lefs by 427 grains: fo that ten ounces Troy are almoft equal to eleven Avoirdupois. Now, as the compofitions of the Difpenfatory, and the extemporaneous prefcriptions of phyficians, are adapted to the Aroy-weight, it is evident, that, if the ounce and half-ounce Avoirdupois are em- ployed with the Troy dram and its fubdivifions, the ingre- dients muft be taken in improper proportions.
