![professional opinion; and, therefore, whatever they have said must be received as mere conjecture, un- worthy of the attention of pathologists. Cholera is a disease quite alarming enough with- out alarming the public more, by placing before them doubtful cases, and drawing from these conclu- sions which are more than doubtful. [Case, No. 23.] The General Board of Health assumed that the first case of epidemic cholera which occurred in Great Britain, in 1848, occurred at Horselydown, Septem- ber 22nd (see page 14 of their Report on Cholera) ; but they forgot to state, that that case occurred in a sailor, belonging to the Elbe steamer, which had anived two days before from Hamburgh, where cholera raged ; and that on the passage fi'om Ham- burgh to London, two men belonging to the vesseil had died of cholera.* They also forgot to mention that a man who slept in the same room as the sailor at Horselydown, on the night of the 21st and the 22nd September, was himself seized with cholera six days after.
