Carduus marianus (Milk thistle)

Plant with large dark green sharp shiny leaves with white veins and purple flower head. Fruits are large, shiny, wrinkled and dark brown. Contains the bioflavonoid complex silymarin which protects various tissues and organs against chemical injury, and shows potential as an antihepatoxic agent. For centuries this plant has been used to treat liver disease.
