    this particular, is that upon a ftri& and laborious explo- ration of the Caufes of Coagulation , conductive to Lapidefcence ox Petrificstlon , in my Differtation De Lithiafi, of ftones in the Microcofm, I found; that the onely Gorgon, or Lapidifactory Principle, to which al] Concreted fubftances ow their Coagulation, and upon | the deftruction of which; they return to their primitive Incontinuity and Volatility, IS a Saline Fixative Spirit. as I have in that difcourfe fufficiently proved : and therefore I fhould rather derive the pedigree of Tartar after this manner. When the Acid Spirit, immerfed in an exceffive quantity of 7. errenity, becomes evirate, languid, and infufficient to the volatilization of the more grofs, ponderous, and fixt parts of the Feces ; Saline Gorgon, ambuícadoed in the terreftrial Refi- dence: and fo immediately upon this conqueft, all the Terreftrial Atomes are fixed, coagmentated, and ferry- minated into a folid Concretion, which is the Tartar ad- hering to the fides of Wine Casks. | Here alfo doth my conftant Fidelity to Truth, make - me to obferve 5 that if izeger be made of Wine,whofe fpirits are all Exbau/ted , by the deftru&tive embraces of Heat, {urrounding: the veffel, and fo infenfibly ex- tracting all radical vigor and effential vitality from the mafs of liquor, propter cugioay, tobe united to acons fimilar fubftance ; as feemeth moft confonant to Ex- perience; then doubtlefs, that great Privy Counfellor to Nature, Sennertus *, hath deferved the refuge of that Proverb, Berzhardus non videt emnia, in his mif- take, That Vineger (hould be made of Wine, wherein the fpirits are fixed or congelated, by reafon of anop- pretlive quantity of Fixative Salt, arifing from the im- vee, Maturity.
