    NEUGEBÀUEK ON Duriug tkese eiglit weeks tke urine was passed involuntarily ; the menses hacl not reappeared since tke labour. lu this state she was admitted into the Friburg Gynækological Clinique, wbere tbe incontinence of urine, which was due to paralysis of tbe sphincter vesicæ, was cured, and after three months’ stay in tbe hospital she left it fairly recovered. She still suffered Irom slight occasional pain in tbe sacral région, and bad some difficulty in standing and walking, feeling quite well only in the horizontal posture. Salome Ilaug was 157 cm. in height, of rather powerful, bony development, fairly covered with muscular and adipose tissue. Her extrcmities were not crooked ; ber thorax, not unduly arcbed, was smooth witbout any racbitic change. The cervical and dorsal vertebræ were regular, but tbere was a well-marked lordotic dépréssion in tbe lumbar spine. The sacrum only moderately steep. In tbe lumbo-sacral région no hiatus could be felt, nor could any scar or puckering be found which woukl bave indicated tbe presence of a congénital hydrorachis. Tbe symphysis pubis was very bigb up. On pressure on tbe abdomen tbe lumbar vertébral column could be very easily felt, and appeared to be displaced forwards. A plumb line lield against tbe dorsal vertebra falls into tbe base of the sacrum, and tbe distance from tbe deepest point of tbe lumbar lordosis measures 2 cm. to tbis line, wbile tbe distance from tbe same point to a line joining tbe most prominent point in tbe tkoracic vertebra to tbe most prominent point in tbe sacrum, is 4‘5 cm. Tbe plumb line in tbe axilla falls in front of the trochanter major, and if suspended in tbe line of tbe trochanter lies posterior to tbe scapula. Haug, wlio wlien young used to walk boit uprigkt, now walks slowly, unsteadily, aud witb difficulty, like one witb sacral paralysis. Her feet are turned rather inwards, and in standing and walking tbe upper part of ber body is bent forwards and tbe knees are decidedly bent. On examination tbe vagina was found moderately capacious and short, tbe arches of tbe anterior half of tbe pelvis convergent, and more so on tbe left side tkan on tbe right. Tbe vaginal portion was short, and in normal position ; from tbe right com- missure tbere was a cicatricial band running to tbe vaginal roof. Tbe body of tbe utérus was retroflexed.
