    Your defign is to fet afide the gifts and bleffings of nature and providence intended for the health of the body, like to the Ro- mifh priefts, who, by their penances, mor¬ tifications, and felf denials, debar their vo¬ taries from eating and drinking of fuch things as pleafe them for the good of their foul. A prohibition as void of religion as your prefcription is of reafon. We may as well be driven into cells and caves as to he in the midff of paradifaical delights, and be doomed to abftinence. Surely, Do&or, heaven did not give us every thing richly to enjoy, that we fhould go mournfully all the day long in fackcloth and afhes. * * » if Moft affaredly thou knoweft, that there is as great a difference in the conftitutions of men as in their faces and fentiments, and at different periods of their lives in fancy, youth, manhood, and old age.
