If failure to sleep from cough, give sedative : (1) A linctus: Liquoris Morphina^ Hydrochloridi iT|^v, Spiritus Chlorofornii \\\\, Tincturai Tolutanai \\y, Succi Limonis lT\_xv, Mucilaginis Acaciae ad 5i; [U.S.P. Morphinai Hydro- chloratis gr. Spiritus Chlorofonni TT\^ii, Tinctune Tolutan« TT|_v, Succi Limoni iT^^xv, Mucilaginis Acacise ad 7ji.] To be slowly sucked from a spoon. (2) A lozenge: {a) Trochiscus Morphinae B.P.; (5) Trochiscus Morphinse et Ipecacuanhae.— BuUs for night feeding: If the patient be roused and kept awake by cough, meet the disturbance with warm food: milk, milk and brandy, broth, etc., according to his taste. Vomit- ing after cough confirms necessity for food. If food and stimulant fail, repeat the morphine linctus. These feeds and even the medicine to be given as often as three times in the course of the night, or as many more times as may be necessary in severe, extensive, actively progressive cases. By 6-7 a.m. the time for the first breakfast has returned.—Local Treatment. —Application of iodine paint over area of active disease: 1^ Liquoris lodi Fortis, Tincturse lodi aa. $i. [U.S.P. R lodi gr. 1, Potassii lodidi gr. xxx. Alcohol 3vi, Aquae 3ii, Tincturae lodi §i.]—Medicines: An alkaline and bitter stomachic (pp. 423, 443): Sodii Bicarbonatis gr. xv, Spiritus Ammoniae Aromatici TT\_v, Infusi Gentianae Compositi B.P. ad §i. Three times a day five minutes before meals.—An occasional purgative pill: 1^ Pilulae Hydrargyri gr. iii, Pilulae Ehei Compositae gr. ii. [U.S.P. V,t. Massae Hydrargyri gr. iii, Pulveris Ehei gr. \, Aloes Socotrinae gr. ^, Myrrhae gr. \, Saponis gr. \, Olei Menthae Piperitae 11^^.] One at bedtime. — Cod liver oil, two tea- spoonfuls twice a day, after meals.—Specifics, if (and as long as) digestion is perfect (p. 421). Either of the following for a definite period of not less than one month, with records of body-weight (every 14 days) and temperature (8 a.m. and 8 P.M. daily): (1) Guaiacol Carbonate gr. 5-10 in cachet. Three times a day after meals. (2) 5^ Calcii Hypophosphitis gr. iii, Sodii Hypophosphitis gr. iii, Syrupi Aurantii 5i, Aquae ad gi.
