Still later, ordinary mixed diet. For breakfast—eggs and mild bacon or fat ham. Medicines.—(1) A saline purgative (p. 548) to be taken every morning: see p. 520. (2) A cathartic pill, to be taken twice a week at first; afterwards once a week: see p. 520, (3) A stomachic and gastric sedative : l)i Sodii Bicarbonatis gr. XV, Spiritus Ammonite Aromatici ii|^x, Infusi Gentianai Compositi B.P. ad §1. Three times a day, five minutes before meals. (4) Later on, to check hepatic degeneration (p. 546): IjL Liquoris Arsenicalis n\^iii, Ferri Tartarati gr. v, Potassii Bicar- bonatis gr. X, Aqua3 Chloroformi ad ^i. Aquae Destillati^ ad si.] At 7 A.M., 11 A.M., 5 P.M. Complications.—For Enteric Catarrh (p. 548).—Eest. Diet. —Milk and lime water or peptonised milk, in 2 J fi. oz. feeds. Every two hours. 3Iedicines.—IjL Magnesii Sulphatis gr. xx, Acidi Sulphurici Diluti ll]_xv, Aluminis gr. xv, Aqute Destillatiu ad gi. Every six hours. (2) For severe Vomiting (p. 550).—Eest. Diet.—At first only sips of hot water, or small pieces of ice, according to taste and effect. Later, 1 to 4 fl. drachms of milk and soda or lime water, or koumiss. A few drops of juice or essence of beef in a little water. Peptonised beef-tea; milk; farinas; champagne (p. 551). Thirst relieved by enema of normal saline fluid.
