About this work

Description

Key crop markets in the developing world are being targetted by plant geneticists who take samples in order to produce genetically engineered equivalents, thus depriving countries of their sources of income. Patents are taken out on the genetically engineered products granting monopoly control to biotechnology companies. Genetic engineering was once promoted as a benefit to poor countries; now, profit has the upper hand. The reporter is Francine Stock.
