He was afterwards knighted, and a frequent Member of Parliament. This was the Au- thor’s firft Publication (unknown to 4, Wood.) It is difcreetly and learnedly handled, for a young Man of twenty-five Years of Age; and founded upon a folid and loyal View of reftraining _thofe dangerous Malecontents, whether Scholars, or Soldiers, who did, ma- ny of them, in his Time, turn Fugitives, and Renegades ; fettling themfelves in Foreign Countries, efpecially under the Umbrage of Spain, to negotiate Confpiracies, Invafions, &%c. with their traiterous Correfpondents .in England, ‘The Author died in 1636, hav- ing printed fome other Pieces ; but his Lee of Sir Philip Sidney (never publifhed) is moft defireable ; and would in all Probability fet forth that gallant and accomplifhed Gentle- man’s Virtues and Actions, in a more con- fpicuous Light than does appear in the faint and inexpreflive Draught that has been left us by his great Friend, Sir Fulk Grevill. 13. As for the Author AZalynes, he was a Commiffioner of Trade, fourteen Years before his Publifhing of this Tract, and was alive twenty-two Years after it ; as may be feen, with a farther Account of him, and more of his Publications, in the Britifo Librarian, p. 96. 14. Epicedium: A Funeral Oration upon the Death of the late deceafed Princeffe of fa- mous Memorye, Elizabeth, by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France, and Ireland. Writen by Infelice Academico Ignoto: Where- unto.is added the True Order of her Highnets Imperial Funeral. (In eleuen Leaves) Quarto, 1603 After the Oration, in three Leaves, fol- lows a Poem, entituled 4 Subjects Sorrow, &c. In both which there are fome elegant Thoughts and Expreffions. And then comes the Time, Order, and formal Proceeding at the Funeral, from Whitehall to Weftminjier, the Twenty-eighth Day of April, 1603 ; introduced and interfperfed with fome Verfes, 15. England’s Mourning Garment, worne here by plain Shepheardes, in Memorie of their facred Miftrefs Elizabeth, Queen of Vertue, while fhe lived, and Theame of Sorrow, being dead. To which isadded, The true Manner of her Emperiall Funerall. With the Shepheard’s Spring Song, for Entertainment of King Fames, &c. (In twenty-five Leaves) Quarto, no Date. This Piece is a Kind of Paftoral Dialogue, between fome Shepherds, in Verfe and Profe, containing a Character of that renowned Queen, which has feveral Particulars in it, worthy of being preferved ; and, about the Middle, two Pages and an half of Poetry, in Reprehenfion of thofe able Poets, who did, or could praife her, when alive, for being a2 filent
