![(c) School children have greatly improved in health, k large increase in the provision of school meals and milk has holpod. Family allowances and the supply of clothing and footwear through the schools should help still more. % (d) The information regarding juveniles and adult3 i3 not 30 reliable. The lives of adults and juveniles are not so standardised as those of school children, and they do not como under regular inspection. There is more uncertainty also about the food allowances of heavy manual workers. There is no doubt that the great reduction in the number of unemployed and bettor allowances for families in poor circumstances has raised the standards considerably, (e) In the older age group the]® have been gains as well as losses. Infirm, elderly peoplo received less attention during the War years as large numbers of women were in employment and domestic help was limited. Elderly people able to look after themselvos have benefited from more liberal allowances. The statement in last year’s Annual Report was thoreforo justified. The standard of health of the community has improved. Further, large improvements are still possible, but only peoplo engaged in local government work fully realise the immense effort and expense required to obtain quite moderate advances in tho health of the public.
