![CHAPTER II. SECTION DRILL. 39. Ovfjanization of the section. A section is divided into two squads, each under a non-commissioned officer or selected private. Should the total strength of a section be less than twelve, the company commander maj'^ use his discretion as to its sub-division. The squads of a company are numbered from one to eight beginning at No. 1 Section. 40. Object of section drill. The object of section drill is to train the individuals forming the section to work together, to secure instant obedience to orders, and to create discipline ; to perfect the section commander in handling his men Doth in close and extended order, so that, when the section takes its place in the company it will be able to carry out any operation which the com])any commander may direct without hesitation or confusion, oi-, if left to the initiative of its own commander it may be able to operate for the common good.
