    ACETONE. CHs-CO-CIIs. Synonym; Di-methyl-ketone. 'Jistillation of calcium acetate; it boils at 56» C. (133.8° P.) has a peculiar ethereal odor and sharp burning taste. Miscible with water alcohol and ether. « yyai-ci, It is employed as a nervine in doses of 5 to 15 minims, in water or infusion of vaierian. ACETONORESORCIN. C15H16O44-IEO. A combination of two molecules of resorcin and one of acetone. Used as an antiseptic. Small anhydrous prisms, soluble in alkalies, insoluble in water and alco- hol ; melts at 312» C. (413.6® F.) ACETOPHENONE. SeeHypnone. ACET-ORTHO-TOLUID. C«n4 (CH3) Nil COCH3. Synonym: Ortho-Tolyl-acetamid. This is an isomeride of exalgine, obtained by prolonged interaction between ortho- toluidin and glacial acetic acid at boiling temperature. This occurs in colorlesss needles; melting point, 107° C. (224.6° F.) Soluble in hot water, alcohol and ether, almost insoluble in cold water. It is employed as an antipyretic, its action is more rapid than that of acetanilid, yet being less toxic. The dose, although there is no authority upon the sub.iect, would be from 0.1—4).3 Qm. (2-5 grains). ACET-PARA-AMIDO-SALOL. See Salophen. ACET-PARA-TOLUID. Cen4 (CH3) NH. C0CH3. Synonym: Para-Tolyl-acetamid. This is obtained by prolonged interaction between para-toluidin and glacial aoetie acid, at boiling temperature. It occurs in colorless crystals of melting-point 149° C. (30io.2° F). It is almost insoluble in water, and readily soluble in alcohol It is employed as an antipyretic in doses of from 1-2 Gm. (15-30 grains). ACETYL'PARA-AMIDO-PHENYL SALICYLATE. See Salophen. ACETYL-AMIDO-ANTIPYRINE. See under Antipyrine. ACETYL-PARA-ETHOXY-PHENYL-URETHANE. See Thermodin. ACETYL-PH EN YL-H YDRAZIN E. See Hydracetine. ACETYL-TANNIN. See Tannigen. ACETYL-THYMOL. CiaHjeOa or CioHiaO-CHgCO. , Synonym : Thymyl Acetate. This constitutes a colorless liquid of pungent taste, sp. gr. l.(X)9 at 0 C. Boils at 244.4® C. (472® F.)
