    Chapter 1: Who We Are In the new structure the Defra Board delegates aspects of its work to two sub-committees, the Audit and Risk Committee and Nominations Committee, whose remits are unchanged. The Executive Committee, which started in September 2012, brings together the Permanent Secretary and four DGs to take key decisions on the management of the Department, to review plans and progress on improving Defra’s capacity and capability for the future, and to oversee cross departmental initiatives to inform strategic decisions by Ministers on their priorities and spending plans. To support the Executive Committee’s work in 2013-14 and beyond, the Executive Committee has established four Panels, focusing on Risks, Operations, People and Finance.
