Marie Ferrier was the daughter of Jerome Ferrier, a Protestant minister of Nimes, who becoming converted to Catholicism, removed to Paris, and was favoured by Louis XIII and Richelieu who employed him in various important matters. Marie Ferrier married Tardieu, and she and her husband figure in most of the memoirs of the time, on account of their avarice.
