Leeuwenhoek, (1632-1723), was a very great microscopist. He was the first to describe the spermatézoa, gave the first complete account of the red blood-corpuscles, was the first to see protozoa under the microscope, found microdrganisms in teeth, demons- trated the capillar-anastomosis between the arteries and veins, etc. Lee- uwenhoek’s discoveries are of capital importance to medicine.
