Porta’s Magia naturalis is one of the most important works on natural sciences published during the XVIth century. Some of these 20 books were afterwards published in an enlarged and separate form. The most im- important book is the seventeenth which contains Porta’s invention of the camera obscura with the lens, and the laterna magica. - Slight hole on fol. 115 affecting a few letters. The author mentions in it the camera obscura, and also that the declination of ,the magnetic needle-varies with the longitude, which he assumed erroneously could be ascertained by the magnetic variation, etc. - Nice copy, Porta, G. This very interesting work which we do not find in any catalogue of recent times, deals in the first part with astrological medicine and in the second part with physio- gnomy.
