Supported by Charitable and Voluntary Contributions, HI S Charity was for fome Years carried on in Pref- cot-Jlreet, G 00 dm an ’ s -fields, in feveral Hcufes hired upon Leafe for that Purpofe; till (by theDecay of the Build¬ ings, notwithftanding large Sums of Money had been expended to keep them in Repair, and the Smallnefsof the Rooms(fit only for privateFamilies) the Governors were determined to open a Subfcription which might enable them to purchafe a Piece of Ground, and to build an Houfe more proper to enlarge and perpetuate their benevolent Defigns ; and which has been fince happily effected. The prefent Hofpital in purfuance of this Scheme is a new Building, Situation. eredded by the voluntary Contributions of feveral Governors given for that Purpofe only, in an airy Situation near the Mount in Mile-end Road, properly furnifned and fitted up with about 215 Beds for the Reception of Patients- The Society for carrying on this laudable and moft ufeful Undertak-General ing, is by his Majefty’s Charter, bearing Date the 3d of November, 1758, Frame, and further confirmed, and declared to be a Body, corporate, by the Name of Regulation The Governors of the London Hofpital, and to confift of fuch Noblemen t^ls Society. and Gentlemen as are therein enumerated, and of thofe who were re¬ puted Governors for Life at that Time ; together with fuch others who, by giving a Benefadlion of thirty Guineas or more at one Time, be¬ come Governors for Life ; and of thofe who by fubferibing five Guineas or more a Year, are Governors during fuch Subfcription. Out of thefe are annually to be elected a Prefident, two or more Vice-Prefidents, and a Treafurer.
