But imagining that die was about to mifcarry, I. was delirous to examine her ; to this end, having palled the os externum with my finger, I was furprifed . to. find that I could by no means proceed in the ufual manner gently up the. vagina towards the facrum, in fearch of the os internum, being obftru&ed by a tumor at the lower extremity of the fa- crum, which ftretched the vagina from fide to fide. I then palled my finger up the reftum, which I perceived was preffed clofe to the facrum, by this tumor, fituated betwixt the vagina and return ; then advancing my fin- / i ger to the fympliyfis of the pubis, found there the col- lum uteri preffed into a flat form, fomething like a middle fized mufhroom juft beginning to open.
