    1 [ 23 ] tion ; (lie informed me that for a month pail fhe had been in conflant pain, which fkft began with a difficult} of making water, and a trifling pain about the neck of the bladder ; for which her midwife ordered her fomething, and flie had alfo taken medicines from her apothecary,- in hopes to carry it off, but to no purpofe. On die con- trary, the pain increafed every day, a fupprefhon of Urine came on, and it was with difficulty fhe could part with any lloo'l for fome time paft : that about the twenty-ninth of December the pain in her body was very great; and, as fhe' expreffed it, bore down violently ; and as fhe could neither difcharge urine nor flool, that fhe had fent again for her midwife, believing fhe was going to mifcarry, who llaid with her fome time, and gave every affiffance in her power by opiates, clyfters, &c. notwithflanding which her bufferings hourly increafed with ficknefs and vomit- ings ; nay, for twenty-four hours before I faw her, fhe had vomited up what ought to have gone down.
