    Admiral. FIVE AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED, ONE LETTER SIGNED, AND ONE AUTOGRAPH NOTE TO HENRY DUNDAS, VISCOUNT MELVILLE. Together 124 pp., 4to. Dated from Edinburgh, Doncaster, and London between 1794 and 1804. Also three enclosures mentioned in Dundonald’s letters. £3 38 An extremely interesting series of letters entirely referring to his long and expensive labours in chemical manufacture through which he hoped to restore the family fortunes, but which resulted finally in extreme poverty. Dundonald informs Melville that he has received no answers to his letters concerning his ‘‘ valuable discoveries ’’ which he is willing to communicate to the Government, and is now patenting these discoveries in Great Britain and Ireland. He begs the Admiralty to give a fair trial to his machinery for manufacturing Cordage, Sail Cloth and Sail Twine; refers to his reluctance to take the machinery to Ireland until he receives the Admiralty’s decision; speaks of his financial difficulties ; and suggests that he be given an appointment in the Admiralty’s mill spinning department. Complaining of the delay, and as to a book of plays which he was also bringing out and which he was afraid would clash. ‘“, . .
