    and dangers in some of the views nowadays advanced in the treatment of this disease and an emphatic pi’otest to them has been made. Syphilis in all its conditions and relations has been comprehensively considered, and much care has been exercised in the concise presentation of a practical,, methodical course of treatment. Much care and attention has been given to the matter of illustrat- ing various morbid conditions, and with the exception of two all the illustrations in this volume have been made under my personal super- vision. The promiscuous insertion of cuts of antiquated instruments which have no practical beai'ing has been sedulously avoided. I am indebted to my friend Dr. Ward A. Holden for the chapters on Syphilis of the Eye and the Ear, and to Prof. T. i\I. Prudden I am indebted for many courtesies extended to me in the Pathological Laboratory and Museum of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Columbia University) of New York. In presenting this volume I venture to hope that it will prove a satisfactory and reliable guide to practitioners of medicine and students who desire information upon the subjects therein considered.
