    of an extremity a splint to secure rest. The dressing is not changed for from two to three weeks, when we find that healing has often occurred throughout by what looks like first intention.^ In diffuse suppurating lymphangitis and cellulitis some extraordinary results have followed opening and dealing with pus collections in the same manner as for ordinary localised abscess. It has been not rare to find pain, swelling and fever disappear, the red lymphatic vessels become pale, the tenderness and enlargement of the lymphatic glands rapidly melting away and what was a threatening position reduced to one of small importance. It is cases of this sort that lead us to believe that the effects of Bipp spread beyond the site of its implantation, and additional evidence in favour of this view is * “ First intention ” is an old clinical term, the meaning of which is plain. It is not so well known that histologically every wound heals by the formation of granulation tissue, i.e., cellular proliferation and the formation of new blood-vessels.
