Anthony Elton died at Ledbury, 13th September, 39 Eliz., 1587 {Inq. p.m.), and the entry of his burial in the regifter runs: “ Anthony Elton, gent., of the hafyll, buried xiijth September. Beinge holyrode yeve, die iScurij.” Adminiftration of his perfonal eftate was granted, P.C.C., 28th September, 1587, to William Ken- derdale of Ledbury, his next of kin \Jic\y and a further adminiftration 2nd June, 1604, to Fulk Hawkins, a creditor. The inquifition on his death was held at Hereford, 4th 06lober, 29 Eliz., 1587, before Paul Delahaye, efq., the efcheator, when it appeared that he was feifed in demefne as of fee of the manor of Haftiill, a tenement called Hallhoufe in the parilh of Ledbury, and of two melTuages, 200 a. of land, 40 a. of meadow, and 40 a. of pafture, with appurtenances, in Haftiill, Halehoufe, and of three parcels of meadow in Longemedowe and Pefebrydge Fylde, called Champiners Hern, in the faid parilh. On 14th February, ii Eliz., 1569, the faid Anthony Elton had infeoffed James Scudamore of Tretyre in the faid county, gent., and David ap Howell, and William de Garwey in the faid county, yeoman, in the manor of Haftiill and lands and hereditaments in Haftiill, Ledbury, Longmedowe, Brodemedowe, Peafebridge Fyld and Lane, in the parilh of Ledbury, to the ufe of himfelf, and his wife, Alice, and their heirs [of their bodies] and in default of fuch iffue to the right heirs of the faid Anthony for ever. Anthony Elton died at Led- bury, 13th September, 29 Eliz., 1587. Alice furvives him at Ledbury, William Elton, gent., is his fon and heir, and was of the age of 17 on the feaft of St. Michael laft paft. The faid manor, and other premifes are held of the Queen as of her manor of Ledbury, by knight fervice, by the fourth part of a knight’s fee, and are worth, beyond reprifes, £Z. Anthony Elton has no other manors or hereditaments in the faid county. Anthony Elton married, circa 1569, Alice, daughter of John Scudamore of Kentchurch, and had iflue a numerous family.^ scudamore. I. William Elton, the eldeft fon, who died without iftue, was born on Michaelmas Day, 1570, and was buried 26th April, 1593, as fon of Anthony Elton, gentleman. An inquifition was taken at Hereford, 27th Odlober, 35 Eliza- beth, before Robert WoodrofF, gent., efcheator, by which it was found that William Elton, late of Ledbury, gent., deceafed, on the day on which he died was feifed in fee tail, as to himfelf and the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten, of the manor ' Could fhe have been the Alfe Ikon, generofa, buried at Sherborne, Dorfet, 29th July, 1611, when the epidemic there carried off fo many of her grandchildren ? marries Alice Scudamore, and has iffue, Wil- liam Elton, his heir, who dies young.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b24883815_0055.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
