The names Clement and Allin Mayo fuggeft that Thomas Mayoe was their nephew, fon of their brother William, mentioned in the will of Thomas Mayo, of Stower Provoft, proved 1592. P. 98, 1. 5. In the Salilbury Marriage Allegations occurs William May of Berwick St. John, hufbandman, aged 28, licenfed to marry Phillis Pope, of the fame, fpinfter, aged 28, loth June, 1630. P. loi, 1. 4. “Adhuc diftringunt Henricum Mayoo generofum hie eflendum ante proximam curiam ad faciendum domino homagium et fidelitatem pro terra fua in Dynton et Telfounte quam de domino tenet per fervicium militate” (Don- nington Court Roll, 29th January, 9 Eliz., 1566-7; Add. Roll, 24441, Brit. Mufeum). 1. 14. Henry Mayo, gent., 9 Elizabeth, 1566-7, holds of the Lord, by ancient cuftomary of 2nd March, 43 Edw. III., 1368-9, two granges, one oxftall, one dove- houfe, and one dwelling houfe, two groves, viz., Weftgrove and Atpunde, and 3^ virgates of land, in Donyngton, and a mefluage and ^ virgate of land in Teffounte, by Knight fervice, at a Michaelmas rent of xxvij.f. v'^d. P. 103, 1. 4. Frances, wife of John Mayhew, was one of the daughters and co- heirs of Thomas Hulfe, of Sutton Courtney, Berks, efq., as appears by an indenture (in the poflefllon of the writer), dated 2nd April, 39 Eliz., 1597, by which John Mayhewe, of Dynton, alias Donyngton, covenants with Thomas Kerye of Sutton Courtney, gent., and George Gaier, of Braie, gent., to fuffer a common recovery of certain lands in Dynton and Over Teffont to the ufe of faid John Mayhewe and Frances, his wife, and the heirs males of the body of faid John, remainder to Henrie Mayhewe, his nephew, remainder to Edward Mayhewe, brother of faid Henrie, remainder to Ralphe Mayhewe, gent., deceafed, and the heirs males of their bodies, remainder to the right heirs of faid Henrie. This indenture recites another, of I ft September, 33 Eliz., 1591, between Henrie Mayhewe, fon and heir of Henrie Mayhewe, late of Dinton, deceafed, Francis Mofeley and Michael Mofeley, the younger, of Clement’s Inn, Middx., gent., of the one part, and Thomas Purcell, of Clement’s Inn, gent., of the other part, touching the fettlement of the property. It is figned “ John Mayhewe,” and endorfed “ My dowghter Mayhewes Joynter,” prefumably in the handwriting of Thomas Hulfe. P. 103, 1. 29.
