![APPENDIX. fA, page 61.] PROCLAMATION Of the Right Honourable Thomas Maitland, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Island of Malta, and its Dependencies, Lieutenant-General in his Majesty’s Army, &c. &c. &c. The continuance of partial cases of plague at Casal Curmi, is to his Excellency matter of the deepest regret, and the subject of his most anxious attention. It appears from the reports that have been made to him, that these cases almost universally depend upon two causes ; the one from the shameful practice which, he has reason to believe, has too long existed, of stealing infected goods out of infected houses or stores; the other from individuals having secreted infected articles in places that have escaped the vigilance of the police.
