Founded in the year 1825 by Henry Drummond, Esq., of Albury Park, in the coiintj' of Suirey, and fonnerly of Christ Chm-ch, whct charged his estate with a yearly rent of ^100 for the endowment. The Professor was to be elected by Convocation. The Professorship was not tenable for more than five years, and at first no one could be re-elected to it until after an interval of two years, but this latter restriction was abolished by a statute'.made in December, 1867. Under statutes made by the Commissioners of 1877 for the Univer- sity and All Souls College respectively, the emoluments derived from Mr. Drummond's benefaction are to be augmented fi'om the revenues of the College to -£800 a year, and the Professor is to receive from the same source the additional yearly sum of ^£200 as the emolument of a Fellowship to be held by him in the College. The Professor is elected by a board consisting of the Chancellor of the University, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Regius Profess6r of Modern History, White's Professor of Moral Philosophy, and a person nominated on each occasion by the Warden and Fellows of All Souls College to act as an elector on that occiision. He holds office for five y^ears, ljut may be re-elected.
