Fractures of Shull In the three cases which proved fatal, the fracture extended through the base of the skull. Fractures of the Skull with Depression.—The patient who recovered underwent the operation of trephining; the patient who died had softening and abscess at the base of the brain. Fracture of the Pelvis In the patient who died, there was rupture of the sacro iliac synchondrosis, with ex- tensive effusion of blood into the cavity of the pelvis. Fracture of Lower Jaw Died of bronchitis. Fracture of Neck of Femur Cause of death, chronic bronchitis. Fracture of Femur, through Condyles In the patient who died, the limb was amputated. Fracture of Fibula.—In the patient who died, the cause of death was Erysipelas of the limb, with purulent infiltration. Fracture of both Bones of Leg The patient who died had gangrene, accompanied by delirium tremens. Fracture of Bones of Leg, Compound Excluding the case of one patient, who was seized with apoplexy while recovering from the effects of the injury, the average residence was 71 days. In two of the patients primary amputation was performed above the knee. Fracture of Bones of Leg, Compound and Comminuted.—In one case, amputation at the ankle joint was per- formed. The patient died from gangrene commencing in the stump. Fracture of Boms of Metatarsus and Toes In one case the patient died of phlebitis, after amputation of the distal phalanx of the great toe.
