He was free in 1403, chaniberlain in 1415, sheriff in 1423-4, M.P. in 1434, lord mayor in 1437, and died in Septeruber, 1438. Alice, his second wife, died in June, 1437, during her husband's uiayoralty. • John de Eaghton, merchant, son of John de Eaghton, bailiff of York in 1394-5, by Alice, daughter and heiress of John de Braithwaite, alderman of Tork. He was chamberlain in 1424, sheriff in 1428-9, and master of the Mercbants' Guild in 1435. On 27th Aug., 1438, he was appointed esquire-at- the-mace to the lord mayor, and died intestate in September following, leaving a widow Agnes. d John Brounefiete, apothecary, son of John Brounefiete, merchant, Tork. Chamberlain in 1420, and sheriff in 1426-7. Will dated 3rd Dec, 1436 [Pro. 4th Nov., 1439], to be buried at All Saints, Pavement (Reg. Test., iii., 590). « Thomas Brounefiete, merchant, free in 1430, chamberlain in 1456, sheriff in 1457-8, died 7th Oct., 1458, and was buried at All Saints, Pavement. He married Alice, daughter of Eichard Thornton, sheriff of Tork in 1446-7. She re-married John Tong, alderman of Tork, whom she survived. * Thomas Carr, draper, free in 1406, chamberlain in 1422, and sheriff in 1427-8. Will dated 28th April, 1444 [Pro. 4th May, seq.~}, bequeaths repara- tioni feretri Corporis Christi in Ebor. xxs. (Reg. Test., ii., 79 b). On 26th July, 1445, in consideration of 100 marks paid by his executor, the master and brethren of St. Leonard's Hospital agree to celebrate an obit in their conventual church, on the lst of May in each year, for the souls of Thomas Karre, late sheriff of Tork, and Isabella, his wife, deceased, also after death for the souls of Isabella, late wife of the said Thomas, of John Karre, late sheriff of Tork, son of the said Thomas, and of Joan, wife of the said John (Corporation Records, B.y., 106). # s The will of John Carr, who was twice lord mayor of Tork, is in Test. JEbor., iv., 26. h Eichard Wartre, goldsmith, chamberlain in 1426, sheriff in 1429-30, M P in 1434, and lord mayor in 1436 and 1451. Will dated 21st May, 1458 [Pro March, 1475], to be buried at St. Saviour's in the Marsh, near Alice his wife (Meg. Test., iv., 115). He was the son of Wm. and Joan Wartre of Tork. Married, lst, Alice Lokton, who died in 1421; 2ndly, Alice, daughter of John Moreton, alderman of York.
