Bank,^ generosus. d John Towthorpe, butcher, free in 1438, chaniberlain in 1463, and sheriff in 1466-7, died 22nd Noveniber, 1481, and was buried, near his first wife Mar- garet, in the church of St. Trinity in Curia Regis. He left a widow Alice, who was the daugbter of William More, cbandler, Tork (Seg. Test., iv., 254). ' John Burton, chaplain, was instituted to tbe rectorj^ of St. Martin's, Mickle- gate, 12th July, 1438 {Reg. archiep. Kempe, 395), and held that living until his death in 1476. f William Croft, gent., sword-bearer to the lord mayor in 1437-8, and mace- bearer from 1438 to 1458. s William Banks, gent., succeeded Croft as sword-bearer in 1438, and held that office until 1455.
