A most interesting copy of a rare edition, having both the original and cancel leaves, v 4 and 5, ff 156 and 157. The original page v4 recto reads (speaking of King John; contractions amplified): “ Et iste magnanimus rex multa incommoda contra fas et jus per superbiam, avariciam, et hypocrisin Romae episcopi patiebatur, ut plane patet in annalibus.” These unseemly expressions were perhaps brought to the notice of the Queen’s advisers; anyhow the passage was reprinted to read, “ Ht iste rex concessit quod ipse et successores sui essent feodarii domino pape reddende proanghia annuatim, Ixx. marcas, et pro hibernia ducentas,’ The cancel leaf is further distinguishable by having the 6 of the foliation inverted.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b31641519_0033.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
