![There was no unusual or excessive mortality during the year which calls for special comment and there does not appear to be any occupation having a prejudicial effect on health. SECTION B. General Provision of Health Services for the Area. There has been no alteration in these services during the year imder review. SECTION C. Sanitar7 Circumstances of the Area. V/ater Supply Although the Council’s wate^' undertaking was transferred to the Mid and South East Cheshire Nater Board on 1st April, 1947 its supervision has been left to the Council v/hile the Board created the organisation necessary to iraintain the whole of the constituent mdertakings. The quality of the water supply to the District Ins been satisfactorily maintained during the year* The quantity was sufficient but only as a result of longer hours of pimping at the Mow Cop Station. Despite the reduction in demand on this source by the taking of a supply from Northwich Rural District Council the consumption has increased so much in the area that the water levels in the boreholes have continued to recede. Almost the ?/hole of the dwelling houses in the Rural District have a piped supply from public water mains. Sewerage. The Council's sev/age disposal works at Holmes Chapel are considerabri^' overworked due to increase in sewage flow resulting from the growth of population in the Village, at Cranage Hall Mental Defective Institution end renewed industrial activity at the Y/allpaper TiTorks. A Scheme for extension is to be prepared as soon as possible® A sma].l extension of the sowers in Holmes Ctiapel began towards the end of the year and major extensions of the sev/ers and the works were commenced at Mow Cop in the Parish of Odd Rode* Numerous sewers have been constructed in connection with Housing Schemes at Holmes Chapel and Rode Heath* In connection v/ith all other Housing Sites simll sewage disposal installations liave been constructed* Closet Accommodation No* of conversions from conservancy to watercarriage system - 16 No* of houses on conservancy sj?intern in built-up areas, including 316 in Tovmiships xeferred to above, as being in need of improved sewerage disposal facilities. “• 425 Public Removal of house refuse and night soil is undertaken, by contract for the Parishes of Betchton, Church Hulme, Church Lawton, Elton, Goostrey and Odd Rode. With regard to theiArish of Odd Rode, the services rendered by the contractors have caused some dissatisfaction and the^^ have decided to embark upon a direct labour scheme* An order has been placed for a suitable ■vehrc..c and when it arrives,,the scheme v/ill be put into operation.
