About this work

Description

Active surveillance: cattle survey These cattle are being corralled so that veterinary officers can collect their blood and screen them forTrypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. The picture was taken in Malawi. Cattle can be reservoir hosts for T. b. rhodesiense, which causes severe and acute human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) in humans. Screening cattle blood is part of the information-gathering process necessary for control of this disease.
