Walthoe, 1732 ($8.40) £2/2/- This Egyptian romance was written in avowed imitation of Telemachus and the Travels of Cyrus. The author’s design was to illustrate and recommend his favourite theory, that the mythological fables and sacred rites of Greece were all derived from Egyptian customs, and especially from the institutions and practices of the Egyptian priesthood. The work is mentioned in Kenning’s Masonic Encyclopaedia. It also forms the sub- ject of an article by R. E. Wallace-James in the Transactions of the Manchester Asso- ciation for Masonic Research, vol. 15, pages 43-60.
