Controversy as to authorship has not been decided, but it has been alternately attributed to Sir Joseph Banks, Dr. Solander (both having written to the publishers denying any knowledge of the “‘ Journal’ or its Author), and to Richard Orton, and William Perry (Petty officers) ; also more recently attributed to T. Becket, one of the publishers.
