Las ruinas conocidas con el nombre de Teotihuacan se hallan situadas á 40 ki¬ lómetros al N. O. de la ciu¬ dad de Mexico; la exten¬ sion lineal que ocupan hoy las ruinas de la gran ciu¬ dad tolteca es de N. á S. 4 kilómetros y de O. á P. 3 kilómetros. Al N. Tie la gran ciudad se encuentra una pirámide truncada de forma rectangular, orienta¬ da, conocida con el nom¬ bre de Pirámide de la Lu¬ na, en mexicano Meiztli Itzacuah* v al S. á una / 9J distancia de 1, 200 metros se halla otra pirámide de igual forma, conocida con el nombre de Pirámide del Sol, Tonal í uh liza cual] mide por lado en su base de N. The ruins known by the name of Teotihuacan are found situated 40 kilome¬ ters to the north-east of the city of Mexico. The lineal tj extension which the ruins of the grand Toltec city oc¬ cupy is from north to south four kilometers and from east to west three kilome¬ ters. To the north of the great city is encountered a truncated pyramid, rectan¬ gular, squared tothepoints of the compass, and known as the Pyramid of the Moon. tj In the Aztec language it is called Metztlz Itzacual. (4) South of it at a distance of 1,200 metres is found an¬ other pyramid of similar form, and known as the Pyramid of the Sun, or Tonatiuh Itzacual. Its base measures from east to west 224 metres. Its perpen¬ dicular height is 68 metres. t The two pyramids are united by a straight street (4).—Boturini. f Latest measurements make the base of the Pyramid of the Moon about 450 feet square, andits height 131 feet.
